The Geochemical Society, as part of ongoing efforts to increase diversity in the geosciences, is seeking applications for student grants to attend the 2018 Goldschmidt Conference in Boston, August 12-18. The grants, supported by the National Science Foundation, are designed to facilitate participation by U.S. students from backgrounds or institutions that are underrepresented at the meeting. We invite applications from students at institutions with limited research funding, and encourage applications by members of underrepresented minorities in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, math) and by first-generation college/university students. Please read the following instructions carefully to determine your eligibility.
- Students must be enrolled at Baccalaureate Colleges, Master's Colleges and Universities (M1, M2, or M3), tribal colleges or community colleges in the United States as of August 12, 2018. To verify your institution's category, visit the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Students enrolled at Doctoral Universities (R1, R2, and R3) are NOT eligible for these grants.
- Applicants must submit a CV and short essay explaining your interest in the conference by May 11 to be considered. Additionally, a letter of recommendation from a professor or mentor is required.
Submit materials in PDF format to: gsoffice@geochemsoc.org. Recommenders should submit their letters directly to this address. All materials are due by May 11; it is the applicant's responsibility to ensure their letters of recommendation are submitted by this date. The GS office is glad to answer questions about this program by email.
