Invitation to Discuss WHONDRS ICON-ModEx: Crowdsourcing, AI/ML, Remote Sensing Integration

Article Type:
Start Date:
Friday, June 9, 2023 - 11:00

If you’re interested in rivers, crowdsourcing, artificial intelligence, remote sensing, and/or open science please join us on June 09, 2023 8:00-9:00 am PT to discuss the WHONDRS ICON-ModEx project that puts all these elements together (https://www.pnnl.gov/projects/WHONDRS/icon-modex). The science goal is understanding riverbed sediment biogeochemistry through continental-scale iteration between models and data. The sampling is informed by artificial intelligence (AI) models using open data from the WHONDRS consortium and other public resources.

The discussion will focus on:

  • Integration of crowdsourcing, AI, and remote sensing
  • Improvements in continental-scale sediment respiration predictions via model-sampling iterations
  • Opportunities to co-author a manuscript from this project
  • New project directions targeting continental-scale impacts of wildfire
  • Your feedback on how to maximize the mutual benefit of this project

Anyone can join by registering at this link (https://tinyurl.com/ICON-ModEx-Update-Meeting).

The discussion will be recorded and posted to YouTube for those unable to attend.

A follow-on workshop focused on collaborative manuscript development will be held on June 23, 2023 8:00-10:00 am PT. Register at the link above to join the workshop.

Please reach out with any questions or ideas via email WHONDRS@pnnl.gov, connect via Twitter @WHONDRS, and consider sending this along to interested colleagues.

We hope to see you there,

Brieanne Forbes, Amy Goldman, and James Stegen (Pacific Northwest National Lab)
