In recognition of the global nature of Critical Zone (CZ) science, the NSF has provided funding to the CZ Observatory (CZO) Science Across Virtual Institutes (SAVI) program to enable travel to CZ sites or pre-eminent laboratories overseas to further the investigation of the CZ. This announcement is an open solicitation for applications by graduate students or postgraduates (US citizens or green card holders at US universities only) to receive funds to participate in the field course described in the announcement title (see attachment for details). We anticipate funding airfare and a predetermined lodging and food allowance for 5 participants. Successful applicants will be obligated to provide a two-page report documenting their participation in the event as well as a description of how the activity will help to advance their career.
Applicants should send a no more than 3-page proposal describing why participation in this field school might be important to their career. The single-pdf-file application packet should include a C.V., and a letter of recommendation from the applicant’s primary advisor as part of the three pages. Applications should be sent to Tim White (firstname.lastname@example.org) by November 4, 2016.
