Brief Site Description:
Network of environmental observatories MSEC (Multi Scale Environmental Changes)
Detailed Site Description:

The network of environmental observatories MSEC (Multi Scale Environmental Changes) is operational since 1998 in Thailand (Phrae-Huay Ma Nai) in Lao PDR (Luang Prabang-Houay Pano) and in Vietnam (Hanoi-Dan Cao). To observe and analyze the impact of agricultural land use change on hydrology and erosion, the network encompasses 3 sub-catchment which correspond to a gradient of use from the traditional extensive system with low inputs in Lao PDR (up land rice), toward the mechanized intensive system with high inputs in Thailand (corn) through an intermediate system mixing trees and annual cultivation in Vietnam (acacia and manioc). The experimental catchments are equipped for detailed and long term measurement of water fluxes and soil erosion.
