Soils - Ely greenstone and Canadian Shield granite and gneiss bedrock underlie glacial drift 45 to 55 m thick. Soils derived of these parent materials are Entisols, Alfisols, and Histosols.
Vegetation - red and jack pine in fire-origin stands or in plantations, along with mixed stands of aspen, white birch, balsam fir, and white spruce.
