The WATERS Network Community Workshop will be held at the Hilton Arlington in Arlington, VA on March 24th-25th, 2008. The meeting will start at 1:00 pm on Monday March 24th and finish at 4:30 pm on Tuesday March 25th. The purpose of the workshop will be to review and seek input into the draft Science, Education and Design Strategy (SEDS) document, which is expected to be released to the public in late February at www.watersnet.org. This meeting will provide an opportunity for all members of the engineering and social and natural science communities to provide input into the proposed design of the network and plans for Phase II of the project office. The results of these discussions will inform revisions to the SEDS document, which will be submitted to the National Research Council for review in Summer 2008, and a forthcoming proposal to the National Science Foundation for Phase 2 activities. Those interested in responding to the WATERS Network Request for Information (RFI) will find this meeting helpful in preparing their responses for the Chief Scientist/Engineer to consider in the Phase II proposal.

Registration for this meeting is free. Travel assistance for participants is available upon request, however, in order to maximize participation at this meeting we ask that attendees limit their requests on the basis of actual need. Priority for travel assistance will be given to young investigators and attendees from undergraduate institutions and Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Institutions (HBCU/MI) although other requests will be considered. If you will be requesting travel assistance please indicate this when filling out the workshop registration form. The deadline for requesting this assistance is Monday, February 25, 2008.

The WATERS Network Project Office has reserved a block of rooms at the Hilton Arlington (group rate deadline is Monday, February 25th) and at the Holiday Inn Arlington (group rate deadline is Friday, February 22nd), which is only a few blocks from the meeting location. The deadline for registering for the meeting is Friday, February 29th.
