BioGeoProbing in the Roanoke River Bottoms![]() With Phil Townsend and Bob Peet (University of Wisconsin and University of North Carolina), Dan Richter cored sediments at more than 20 sites across the lower Roanoke River bottomlands. Coring proceeded to > 5 m in many locations. The Roanoke River's terraces are thickly covered by agriculturally derived sediments that resulted from agriculture in the historic South; at several sited buried A horizons were clearly identified. Below "post-contact" sediments lie variably textured materials, all underlain by a floor of fine grained, green marine sediments filled with shells. Submitted by drichter on Tue, 10/16/2007 - 07:07. |
