Assistant Professor in Soil Chemistry - University of California, Davis

The Department of Land, Air and Water Resources in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, University of California, Davis invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Soil Chemistry. We seek an outstanding applicant with a Ph.D. in soil chemistry or closely related field to conduct soil chemistry research spanning spatial scales from the molecular to landscape. The applicant is expected to develop major research initiatives and engage in cross-disciplinary research on topics related to agricultural and environmental sustainability in California. Potential areas of research include chemical aspects of nutrient and irrigation water management, fate and transport of contaminants along the soil-plant-groundwater-surface water continuum, trace element biogeochemistry, saline and sodic soils, agricultural water reuse and disposal, land application of biosolids, and food/water quality and safety. The appointee is required to teach an undergraduate and graduate course in soil-water-environmental chemistry and to contribute to the teaching of a general education course. Supervision of graduate students, student advising, curricular development, participation in outreach programs, and university service are expected. This nine-month position, with eleven-month term employment with an appointment in the California Agricultural Experiment Station to be offered and continued based on academic personnel review, is available on or about July 1, 2008.
