Assistant Professor / Pedology-Land Use Position is open at Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, NC State University, Raleigh, NC.
This is a tenure track position with 60% Research and 40% Academic appointment. Salary commensurate with experience. The selected candidate will develop a research and teaching program that integrates pedologic principles with modern measurement and computational approaches to address contemporary soil-land use issues. Research should focus on interactions between soil properties and human activities at multiple spatial and temporal scales. Research topics might include characterizing the pathways of contaminants through landscapes in both urban and rural settings; using geospatial techniques to assess soil quality; or improving effectiveness of on-site waste disposal systems in problem soils. Research that provides new information that supports our on-site wastewater training program will be encouraged. Generation of external funding from multiple sources to support the research program is required. It is expected that the candidate present research at state, regional and national symposia and meetings; and publish research studies in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.
The candidate is expected to teach an undergraduate/graduate-level course in soil genesis, classification, and mapping. This course will also include field and laboratory training in soil-landscape relationships and soil interpretations for land use decisions. An additional course will be taught each year in the person’s area of interest or as needed by the Department. Coaching the intercollegiate soils judging team will be part of teaching responsibilities.
